The New Hope high school band recently welcomed a new student teacher, Cody Sheffield.

“Music is an experience everyone should enjoy, Mr. Sheffield stated. “Me continuing to introduce people into music and teaching students the joy of music is what drives me to pursue music.”

Mr. Sheffield explained how a love for music started for him, which was in his junior high school marching band playing trombone.

Now that he’s older, and has been talking with numerous people at Mississippi State campus, observing the class and seeing how friendly everyone was, and how they welcomed him with open arms, sealed the deal for Mr. Sheffield.

Although he is not yet a certified band teacher, he doesn’t take his goals, plans, or job lightly. The key to Mr. Sheffield’s focus is keeping communication open with his mentor, taking all criticism in a supportive way, and to not trying and do anything on his own.

Mr. Sheffield stated, ”I do enjoy playing music, but seeing the process of a 6th grader musician turning into a 12th grader musician is an amazing sight, and it’s something I want to be a part of.”
